Another great gone: Lux Interior checks out

Went quite innocently yesterday to take a look at Microsoft's new very innovative celebrity related site, Wonderwall and the first news that I saw cut me down. Lux Interior dead from some heart thing. Much like the Ramones, many critics and sometime fans alike made the mistake of assuming that their unchanging style was some kind of postmodern, mannerist schtick. It was absolutely sincere. This was not a novelty act, it was Elvis, Iggy and a thousand and one garagepunk and rockabilly switchblade and speed nightmares vomited up into the post punk era. In the liner notes of their latest comp, Lux confessed that this assumption 'cuts us to our very core'. When everything around you is a joke, serious wickedness can be safely and stupidly ignored.
